Karelia and RAO UES of Russia (RTS: EESR) have agreed to construct a diesel power plant on the island of Valaam.
According to an Interfax source in the Karelian Government, a corresponding agreement has been signed by Management Board Member, CEO of Business Unit No.1 of RAO UES Alexander Chikunov, Director General of TGC-1 Andrey Likhachev and Head of Karelia Sergey Katanandov.
The first stage of construction of the Valaam island diesel power plant is scheduled for 2006-2007. The cost of the project is estimated to reach RUR 110 mln.
The construction will be financed by the Russian Government, RAO UES and the Karelian Government.
"The power plant will provide a solution to the problem of power supplies for Valaam which is very acute now", stressed the source in the Karelian Government.
A working group comprising representatives of all signatories to the agreement will control implementation of the project.
TGC-1 has undertaken to develop design estimates, have it agreed with the Main State Expert Review Agency and take all necessary actions as the customer and developer of the diesel power plant construction by 1 April, 2006.
"The parties in the agreement have undertaken to ensure safety of the historical, cultural and natural integrity of the Valaam archipelago in the course of construction", noted the source in the Karelian Government.
TGC-1 was established in the course of the reform of the electric power industry on the basis of the power facilities of Lenenergo (RTS: LSNG), Kolenergo (RTS: KOLE) and Karelenergo. |
