The Russian Government, RAO UES of Russia and the Karelian Government will jointly finance construction of a diesel power plant on the island of Valaam worth RUR 110 mln. A corresponding agreement has been signed by the Government of the Republic of Karelia and RAO UES of Russia.
According to the Prime Minister of the Karelian Government Pavel Chernov, commissioning of the new diesel power plant will allow a five-fold increase in the generation capacity installed on Valaam and to eliminate the problem of power supplies to the island. By 1 April, 2006 design estimates are to be worked out and all other necessary actions are to be taken for construction of the diesel power plant. A working group comprising representatives of the Republic of Karelia and RAO UES of Russia will be set up to control implementation of the project. |
