50% of Votes in Market’s Council to be Government-owned, Says an Expert

Approximately 50% of the votes in the Market’s Council nonprofit partnership that will replace RAO UES will belong to the government, said Petr Yerokhin, Director General of the United Dispatcher Control System (ODU) of the Urals region, an affiliate of the open joint-stock company System Operator - UES Dispatcher Control System.

Siberian Power to Be Generated with Chinese Equipment

The Siberian Coal Energy Co. plans to use Chinese turbines and generators in its new electricity plants. That is a move to counteract the shortage of equipment expected once RAO UES of Russia begins its large investment program. SCEC general director Vladimir Rashevsky told Kommersant that the company may begin buying Chinese equipment in the next five years.

Russia, Iran take pause in talks on Bushehr NPP completion

Russia and Iran have taken a time-out in the talks on the completion of the Bushehr nuclear power plant. Itar-Tass learned from Atomstroiexport Company that is the general contractor for the construction of the first Iranian nuclear power plant that “the company’s delegation on Monday returned from Tehran to Moscow with the onset of the Nauruz national holiday and a fortnight ’s pause in the functioning of state institutions and enterprises.”

Russian Government to Privatize in 2008 Stocks in Several Regional Energy Companies

The Russian Government may sell in 2008 its shares in some power plants, as well as in generating and distribution grid and retail power companies. This conclusion may be drawn from the plan for privatization of federal property.

It was revealed yesterday that Mikhail Prokhorov will step down as Norilsk Nickel General Director in the near future rather than at the end of the year as was expected earlier. In fact Nornickel is trying to be disassociated as much as possible from the major purchase of power assets planned by Mikhail Prokhorov.

Italy May Get YUKOS and RAO UES Assets

With the coming visit to Italy by Russia’s President Vladimir Putin whose program will include signing important external economic agreements, business circles of both countries have become much more active. In particular, a round table discussion held in Rome on Tuesday brought together Russian and Italian businessmen to share views on prospects of mutual economic expansion with Italian business coming to Russia and vice versa. Plans of Italy’s power majors, Eni and Enel, proved to be the most ambitious in this endeavor.

Russia Proceeds with Building Bushehr NPP, Puts Off Its Start for At Least Two Months, Says Nuclear Energy Agency Head

Russia proceeds with building the nuclear power plant in Bushehr, Iran, although it has to put off its start for at least two months, said Sergei Kirienko, head of the Federal Nuclear Energy Agency of Russia (Rosatom). He noted that he was somewhat surprised at the position of the Iranian party regarding the financing of the construction of the Bushehr NPP.

TGCs May Switch to Divisional Management System Similar to RAO UES

RAO UES of Russia wants to introduce a divisional management system to territorial generating companies (TGCs), similar to the one currently used by the holding company itself. To implement a pilot project in this area and make the final decision on whether to launch the system on a large scale, RAO has selected TGC-8

Italy's Enel May Invest ˆ2-4Bn in Russian Generating Companies

The Italian fuel and energy corporation Enel is still interested in acquiring a share in the authorised capital of Russian generating companies, but it needs guarantees that it will indeed be taking part in managing those companies whereof shares it intends to purchase.
