GE Turbine Delivered to Syzran under Volga Agate Project of IES-Holding

12-10-2009

A General Electric gas turbine unit intended for Volga Agate, an investment project of IES-Holindg, was delivered October 11 to Syzran HPP, where a 235 MW power unit is now under construction. This is one of the two Frame 6FA turbines (80 MW) to be operated within the new CCGT plant.

IES has ordered the total of 9 GE turbines with an aggregate capacity of about 630 MW for the projects that involve construction of new generation facilities at Syzran HPP, Novokuybyshevsk HPP-1, Igumnovo HPP and Kirov HPP-3 under Diadem investment project. These state-of-the-art highly efficient turbines consume much less fuel as compared to other medium-size equipment under base conditions; the gases exhausted after the gas turbine unit have a very high temperature, which ensures their high operating efficiency in binary CCGT units. This is why Frame 6FA turbines are unparalleled in Russia.

"Implementation of this investment program is among IES-Holding's priorities. We are constructing new generation facilities using the latest energy efficient technologies and equipment. This is both Russian and foreign solutions," says Andrey Shishkin, First Vice President and Director for Operations of IES-Holding.

"IES-Holding is our largest Russian customer," says Ruslan Pakhomov, Energy Country Executive for GE in Russia. "We are glad that IES-Holding has chosen F-class Frame 6FA turbines, which, given the traditional features of power and heat production in Russia, is ideal for Russian cogeneration projects."

The Volga Agate project provides for commissioning at Syzran HPP of a CCGT unit with an aggregate capacity of 235 MW consisting of two GE Energy's Frame 6FA turbines with an electric output of 80 MW each and a SST-600 steam turbine (Siemens) with a capacity of 75 MW.

Construction of the CCGT unit at Syzran HPP will let both remove the obsolete turbines from service and increase the installed capacity of the HPP by more than 53%, from 255 MW to 392 MW.

The new power supply unit will let considerably enhance the energy and economic efficiency of Syzran HPP and, above all, optimize the specific reference fuel consumption for power production by about 24%, from 332.8 g/kWh to 259 g/kWh.
