From January to September 2009, the power plants of IES-Holding consisting of generating facilities of TGC-5, TGC-6, TGC-7 and TGC-9 produced 44,509.81 million kWh of power which is 8,7% less as compared to the same period of 2008. According to the analysis by Trading Division of IES-Holding, such a decline is mainly due to a general drop in demand and tough competition on the wholesale electric power market on the part of atomic and hydroelectric power plants with their low production costs. Thus, Volga TGC showed the most dramatic decline (-10,03%) due to a significant drop in consumption by the United Power Grid of the mid-Volga region (-11.1%) and proximity of large atomic and hydroelectric power plants. The same factors caused a decline in production of TGC-6 (Generation Center). TGC-5 (Generation Urals) happened to be the least vulnerable to such changes as the power it produces is always in demand in the Vyatka free power transfer zone. From January to September 2009, the power plants of IES-Holding reduced heat output by 3.7% to 79,365.2 thousand GCal. This is mostly due to a decline in manufacturing output. This factor was critical for performance of TGC-9 (Generation Urals), as most part of its clients is industrial companies. Unlike other generation companies of IES-Holding, in Q1 and Q2 2009 TGC-5 showed heat output growth as compared to the previous year. The heat and power plants of TGC-5 increased their heat output in February and March, because these two months were colder than the same period of the previous year. As households account for 60 to 70% of the heat produced by TGC-5, its drop in production from January to September 2009 was the least significant (-2.2%). |
