IES-Holding started a large-scale investment project of chemical water treatment facilities upgrade at Berezniki HPP-4 (Generation Urals) under its integrated program of heat supply reliability enhancement in Berezniki. The most important milestone of this project will be the water treatment system reconstruction of this combined heat and power plant. In the shortest possible time (about 12 weeks), a turnkey building will be constructed at HPP-4 to house the water treatment facilities. The new building will cost about RUR 120 million, while the total project cost will exceed RUR 500 million (including the engineering design). It is proposed to install new equipment and implement a fundamentally new ultrafiltration treatment system in the water treatment facilities. The essence of these innovations is that the water required for plant operation will pass two filters equipped with a membrane. Backward current will be used to remove impurities from the membrane surface. The use of ultrafiltration membranes for water treatment helps maintain its salt composition and ensures clarification without using chemical agents. Experts believe that this water treatment technology is more cost efficient. What is more, water treatment without using chemical agents will make the treatment process environment-friendly. The capacity of treatment plants to be installed in the water treatment building of HPP-4 will reach 300 cubic meters of water per hour. Demolition of the old building and water treatment equipment will be soon completed. By the end of 2009, foundations for the new water treatment plants will be installed and assembly works will start. As soon as installation works are over, step-by-step transition to the new way of water treatment will begin. The project implementation will be completed by 2010. At the same time, IES-Holding is conducting other development works at HPP-4. They installed a new boiler plant and high-pressure heater for system water supply in the main building. The consumer supply unit is also undergoing reconstruction. Thus, due to implementation of new heat production facilities and water treatment plant in 2010, IES-Holding will be able to increase its system water supply to Berezniki from HPP-4. This will ensure heat supply to consumers of Berezniki HPP-10 which is located within the technogenic accident area of the potassium mine, if required. |
