Metallurgical, engineering and chemical companies have been recognized the most efficient heat and power consumers. By results of Energy Cooperation Contest 2011 held by IES-Holding in 16 Russian regions metallurgical companies have received 20% of awards in the nomination of Major Industrial Enterprises, and engineering and chemical companies have each received 18% of awards in the same nomination. While high performance of engineering and chemical businesses has already become traditional, metallurgical enterprises have been named energy efficiency leaders for the first time in the three-year history of the Contest. During the past year consumer companies carried out a series of energy system repair and maintenance works and upgrading activities resulting in higher efficiency. For example, they installed electronic heat and hot water metering devices and automatic control equipment for energy consumption, renewed pipe and premises heat insulation, flushed heating systems, etc.
Absolute leadership in the nomination of State and Municipal Enterprises and Social Facilities belongs to educational and research institutions, which have swept 47% of awards. The other two of the three leaders are state and municipal administrative institutions (17%) and healthcare facilities (13%). The leading positions in the nomination of Small/Medium Businesses were divided between food industry and trade enterprises (15% each), while 9% of awards in this nomination went to individual entrepreneurs. Most of the anti-prizes of the Energy Vampire of the Year have again been received by public utilities. The contest results were summed up at the end of May. Over 300 corporate power and heat consumers received their awards at official ceremonies. Participating in the contest were some 6,500 enterprises and organizations, while its panel of judges, besides IES officials, comprised representatives of regional authorities, regulating bodies, mass media, environmental protection organizations and industrial experts. The Contest's main purposes include creating public and business community awareness of energy efficiency problems and rewarding advocates of energy-efficient technologies among consumers. IES-Holding annually engages its partner organizations - acknowledged energy efficiency experts - in holding the Contest. In 2011 this partner was IES.Garant, a developer of integrated energy efficiency solutions for businesses and social organizations and a company with a successful record of supporting and improving "business energy health". "The Energy Cooperation Contest held for the third time is turning into tradition. The number of participants and their responsible attitudes to energy efficiency are indicative of the fact that energy-saving solutions in manufacturing industries and public utilities are becoming an integral part of this country's contemporary economic life", notes Yevgeniy Olkhovik, General Director, IES-Holding. |
